About Snyder Dojo

A family dojo in Kalamazoo where kids, women, beginners, and lifelong grapplers train side by side.

Owner & Head Instructor

Sensei Chris Snyder

Chris Snyder has been grappling his whole life — and has spent decades teaching it to kids and adults in Kalamazoo.

He built Snyder Dojo around a simple idea: martial arts should make people stronger, more confident, and kinder to each other. That's why the mat here has no room for egos. Safety and comfort come first, nobody is pressured to compete, and every beginner gets real attention from day one.

Parents notice it right away. Review after review says the same thing — Chris is patient, encouraging, and wonderful with the kids, from shy five-year-olds to three-year-olds in their very first class.
